Sgian Dubh is Gaelic for black ("dubh") dagger ("sgian"), as invariably the handle was carved from black bog oak, and perhaps more subtly, the word "black" implies "secret" or "covert" as in "blackmail" or "blackmarket". Normally this weapon of last resort was concealed, only to be exhibited in the presence of a host out courtesy, usually in the sock where it would be seen.
Deluxe Sgian Dubhs are of the finest quality, incorporating superior leather sheaths and highly polished mounts. There are 2 styles:- Polished Tops and Stone Tops available in 6 colours. (see Celtic & Deluxe Sgian Dubhs 2) Each style is offered with or with a studded handle. A magnificent presentation box is also included-making these ideal as an extra special gift.
