Sgian Dubhs

Sgian Dubh is Gaelic for black ("dubh") dagger ("sgian"), as invariably the handle was carved from black bog oak, and perhaps more subtly, the word "black" implies "secret" or "covert" as in "blackmail" or "blackmarket". Normally this weapon of last resort was concealed, only to be exhibited in the presence of a host out courtesy, usually in the sock where it would be seen. The Sgian Dubhs (top row 3 & 5) conform to the Traditional Regimental pattern whilst the Sgian Dubh (top row 1 & 7) is a safety version with no blade, primarily intended for dress hire, sale to children and security purposes. The Clan Crest Sgian (top row, 2) will accept any of our small clan crest badges. The Stag Knives (bottom row) have simulated horn handles; the sheaths of (bottom row 1 & 5) are leather. All are supplied in gift boxes except for the safety version (top row 1 & 7).
